Tried to use the " school employee discount" which apparently does not apply to anyone who isn't a teacher . 4 phone calls was on hold 14 minutes ( disconnected) 17,21and finally 24 minutes. So what I would have "saved" I just lost in wasted time at work. Thinking I will not use adobe for anything |

Ouch! They are not the easiest. Michael got Lightroom 3 and one of the Adobe packages under the education discount scheme, they disallowed one claim because they wanted a fresh letter of proof he was in full time education from his school for each item he ordered. In the end they relented and allowed the transaction. I must have spent over an hour on the phone and countless eMails and 'chat' sessions to customer support. |

If Adobe spent more time making their products easier to use rather than spending it all on making it impossible to use, they would have a shot at moving their stock price up for a change. I don't know about others, but I have NO interest in a cloud service or in "renting" my software... They are not proposing this to make it better or easier for us, but to try to squeeze more blood out of some rather dated technology. As far as I'm concerned, the only valuable thing they have is ACR at this point. Tom |

Got several emails an twitter feedback from Adobe , appologizing for oversight , now LR 4 is downloaded and all nice and shiney , I cannot explain how much this lightens my mood |

Excellent news Rick! Now to learn all the ins and outs with it. One of the default settings I had a problem with was the default setting for rendering imported images was 'minimal' size for the image display. This speeds up the import but drastically slows down the viewing of images and general use, because it has to render every image every time you view it. That needs setting to 'standard' if it isn't already. |

Robert thank you . LR4 seems fun so far but editing images I can't find the " suggest fixes" tab like PSE9.0 use to have . I guess the price of a real program not a simple one |

Rich is the Lr expert around here, I use it a lot for evaluating images, DAM and temp fixes to snaps. Any serious image editing I do in Ps5. Not so much because Lr can't handle it but because I know Ps5 better. One area which I use a lot is cloning and layering images for focus bracketing which I do in Ps5. Probably your best move is to watch some of the tutorial videos to be found on the Adobe site. I found a lot of functions by watching them. In the develop module in the basic panel there is an 'auto' button which will set the exposure controls to what ACR thinks is a good fit - often you would disagree though. I nearly always start in the camera calibration profile and set a profile (normally portrait or landscape). That does quite a bit, I then go back to the top and work from the top down. Nor me! I cant see why I need to clog up my very small bandwidth connection doing uploads/downloads in what I see as a scheme to allow Adobe to manage their assets more tightly. If they sold the software for half the price then they would have very little piracy issues. In the past for the money you also got a printed manual now you get a whole load of advertising rubbish, a CD, huge box and a sticker that has your Serialisation Code and no manual. The price has been doubled and I dont use the support which I also get charged for in UK. So there doesnt seem a lot in it for me except some new bells and whistles compared to my old CS2. |
