This one for Rich and any other users: What do you think about it a month into using it? I have some friends waiting for your reply  ...I have another question... Does the app actually RESIDE in the cloud or do you just access it for updates? Or, put another way, is fast wifi required to actually use it? And if it's in the cloud, does the computing power come from the server or from your local cpu? Cheers, Tom

Tom, I don't have it so can't comment on the usability aspect but as far as I know the application software resides in each computer and doesn't matter whether it's Mac or PC. I don't think there is a limit to the number of computers you download it to. From what I understand you log in and use it wherever you happen to be on whichever computer you choose. I think you have the option to store images in Adobe's cloud (their online server) or on your own storage whatever that may be. These are my interpretations from what I have read while researching for myself because I am interested. I have multiple computers but can't justify multiple licences. As I see it, I can have as many computers loaded with Photoshop as I wish at various locations, and simply sit down and use it any time anywhere. It may also be, especially for Lightroom that saving changes will not involve saving the entire image but a record of the changes made, which is a sort of text file of data of the changes not the actual edited image which will actually be tiny like the sidecar files for NEF's but buried in the Lightroom database. Perhaps keeping a copy of NEF's on the Adobe Cloud together with the sidecar files and then have local copies of the TIFF and JPEG files would be a good way to work? There are many options. The new iDisk in the iCloud is very interesting and may evolve into a very useful seamless feature too. We are living in interesting times.

I am fairly sure that Robert is correct. The apps are too large to be stored in the cloud.

Thanks, guys. I have the full version, but a friend was asking me for advice. I was under the mistake impression that it was a true cloud app like google docs. It might be a pretty good deal this way. Rich - I jumped to a wrong conclusion...you may have been the smartest guy in the pack Tom

Tom, I checked out the Adobe forum last evening. You can install on as many computers as you like, but you can only activate two, they can be PC or Mac or one of each. If you need to use a third computer for some reason, you have to de-activate them both, then activate again your choice of two. The computers need to be logged by Adobe every 30 days, Your computer will warn you if it misses being logged, you will then have 7 days before it stops your access to the software. You only need to be connected to the internet for the activation and logging. Unless you are using Cloud storage of course. There are two charge rates, monthly, or yearly. Adobe charge your card every month but with the monthly rate you can opt in and out as you wish by the month. The monthly rate is much higher than the yearly rate, but might work out cheaper if you only need one element of the collection for a specific job... For example having Adobe Premiere to edit a large one off movie.

Robert- It would be a great way to use the exotic stuff for a short while. PS would be a good subscription if you absolutely knew there would be upgrades every single year. I really care much more about ACR than I do about the latest upgrade, though I will say that CS6 was a good upgrade - not so much actual new stuff, but great polishing up what was already there. Tom

I agree Tom, I had hoped Adobe had followed the same model that most other companies have, allowing unlimited installs with one active seat. I think that is possibly offset by not needing to be connected to the internet except once every 30 days. It does depend on your needs and cash availability, I still haven't done the math on the cost model comparisons yet. I have hardly touched Photoshop this year yet, I simply haven't had time to sit down to serious editing. So my Cs5 is slowly becoming obsolete without being used.

As Tom says CS6 has some nice polishing and cleaning up but there are few startlingly new things. The Blur features are quite interesting. I do think that I could do everything I need to do in Photoshop in CS3 but itis nice to have some of the new features available occasionally. I do prefer the new dark interface but that is something that should be user customisable not a permanent program feature!

For some reason I automatically change the background to start white... Maybe I should try it black?

I've been talking to Adobe. They're not being nice to me. I can't upgrade my CS2 to CS6 because it's been too long. They want me to but a new full version of CS6 for $699 or a 1-year Cloud subscription for $30 per month. The Cloud version is downloaded to your hard drive and activated after you pay. Upon activation a clock starts ticking. If you don't pay for another month and also get online within 30 days, the software stops working. It's still there taking up space but does nothing. Sounds like some people I know. It checks online to verify that your credit card transaction went through that month. P.S. I have to buy CS6 because I can't get D800 NEF translators for my G5 PPC CS2. So the D800 required a better lens to get the resolution, and CS6 to read the NEFs that contain the better resolution, and a new Intel Mac to run CS6 because it's Intel-only. If you aren't confused you're not trying hard enough.
