ok not exactly still images I know but; have some MTS movie files of my son flying. I wish to convert these to QT mov. Anyone know of a free converter for Mac OS X ?

(by free I mean no watermark, time expire etc)

Have got VLC which purports to convert to MOV but to be honest it's a lot of hassle and the MOV option is greyed out. Better if I could find something that just works.

I'm not sure if it costs anything, but do a search of the app store for 'won converter' (or wontube)

Take a look here.

I use a purchased product from Xilisoft as I convert stuff from any format to AVI.

I got registered with the App store, downloaded a freebie which turned out to be not good at all, then bought Aunsoft MTS converter, that worked but the sharpness wasn't very good.

This is not surprising since MTS is HD, and going to a non-HD format is obviously going to yield a difference.

Have decided just to leave them in MTS, since as it happens VLC player really does do a fine job with this format.

You are probably loosing a bit of fidelity during the conversion too Steve, if you can work in the original format then it's probably best.

Good luck with the App Store, I find it like treading in treacle with oversize wellies on! Slowwww and messy.

VLC does a very good job. I use it as default for all my video playing. I find QuickTime a complete PITA.

Did you try Wontube
I used this to convert thousands of these files successfully for a client recently

Is it free in the app store
If not it is free to download here

From memory I think I found the android preset the best for reliability (a few dozen failed at the end of the day)

Current theme is Blue
