D600 support in AfterShot Pro

1^st Post

As at version 1.1 ASP doesn't support D600 NEF, so I tried to change the exif info about camera model from D600 to D700 and bingo - ASP could now open the files. The only problem I could see is that there's a very thin line of artefact on the upper edge of the opened images. This is minor as I can crop it with a few mouse clicks.

The program I used was ExifTool:

That is interesting as the D600 is 24MP and the D700 is 12MP so this shouldnt work.

Have you tried exporting to a Tiff or JPG ?
Are these correctly formed ?.

Yes, it's weird to me too, but it worked anyway:

(See the right hand side for the "line" I mentioned)

As highlight recovery worked fine as well I think the file produced was from the raw data, rather than the jpeg header of the raw file.

Unfortunately the only WB setting that works is "as shot".

Don't suppose changing these flags enables NEFS from newer bodies to be opened in older ACR versions as well?????

Eric, I'm afraid ASP is one of the very few orphan software that require users to support themselves.

Though I was also a user of another - OS/2. :(

The D600 is meant to be 24.3MP (6016x4016) and the D700 is 12.1MP (4256x2832).

Since they share the same sensor layout and size ratio the pixels should logocally behave in the same way.
Since I have never seen or heard of this actually working before then I have to wonder what is happening.

I will ask the question to somebody from Bibble who no longer works for Corel.

I am 99.9% sure that we will never see any meaningful upgrades made by Corel to ASP.The best thing that they can do is to see the source code or just make it open!

The way I see it ASP is a dead end.

You can't get rid of the expert programmers who created the software then move the product forward in a meaningful way which like any imaging software, it still needs. It's simply a cash cow until it runs dry.

So it's time to move onto LR or something else now?
I have LR but the image quality is not as good as PhaseOne Capture Pro v.7 but I am finding that CP catalog is useless so I have stuff cataloged via Extensis or LR.

CP is about to release a 7.0.2 version which supports shhhhh Fuji XPro1 and XE1 cameras.

Unfortunately or fortunately there seems to be no really good one stop solution. I find LR too restrictive.
I do like my Photoshop addins and the ASP plugins.

I agree but Corel seem to do this with all the products they purchase.
I dont know how they manage to survive other than by selling loads of licenses at a cheap price with no support and enhancement.
No doubt I'd be a millionaire if I understood all the whys and wherefores of this type of selling.

I have asked amongst my peer group of Bibble testers and yes this works but there are some shortcomings to doing this in that some characteristics such as WB and custom curves and the like may be less than optimal.

I hope that I will get a response from one of the old Bibble programming team.
