I am reposting the original document I made for the process of re-celling a Nikon EN-4 battery, as used in D1 and D2 series cameras, which originally had a NiMH cells with Lithium ion batteries (18650 cells). 
This means that you CANNOT use the Nikon charger for these re-celled batteries.

I had someone contact me who had followed my conversion document.  I have now made a simpler document.
Here is the revised method.
