Kathy,
No, unlike some Canon lens properties, most Nikon lenses will fit most Nikon camera's.
In each camera manual there is an extensive table, stating what wil fit and/or work.
Regards, Gilbert
PS to go even further: an FX kamera willy try to best use a DX lens by switchig to DX mode when a DX lens is mounted, the user can override this setting.

There are FX lenses and DX lenses. They all fit the D200.

The difference is that a DX lens have been adjusted so that it matches the smaller DX sensor and gives the correct field of view.

If you put an FX lens on a DX body you get a 1.5x multiplication of the focal length because it is matched to a larger sensor, not the smaller DX sensor.

So for example a 35-100 DX lens would give you a 'true' 35-100 view.

But an FX 35-100 would give the field of view of 52-150mm. So using FX lenses you gain in telephotos reach but struggle at the wide end.
