Just a question for those that have or have had the Fuji x100. What is your thoughts about it? I'm thinking of one as a small camera for days out and general photography. Any recommendations on which version to go for, it would be secondhand. |

Only downer is the battery life. You need to carry a couple of spare extra batteries. Otherwise the IQ is awesome and the camera works well. I still have mine and I love it. I use it when I go walking. |

Apart from battery life, I would 'criticise' the X100 for its slow response time, a few switch irritations and of course the lack of lens interchangeability...WHEN COMPARED TO LATER MODELS. That said, the IQ matches the D3. I felt the lack of lens interchangeability began to pall after a while. I found myself carrying a D7000 as well! We've all done the 'walk around with just a 50mm lens' exercise. It does focus attention on picture composition and hone you skills. But you cannot beat a range of focal lengths at your disposal....be that primes or zoom. I wanted a camera I could use walking round towns taking street shots. Sorry, the response time of the X100 isn't good enough for that. If you switch it off, to save battery, it will take seconds to wake up, frame, focus and fire. It's no use for moving situations....the decisive moment is lost. Personally I would go for a used XPro or XT. |

The sensor on the X30 is much smaller but the camera has all the features of the X100 plus it has a zoom lens. I did consider buying one myself but I got a Nikon V1 with 10-30 and 30-110 lenses and a spare battery for less than £300. The X30 was £475. The V1 has a sensor (1" CX sized) which is 1/2 the area of APS-C. The X30 sensor is half that again I think, so 1/4 the area of APS-C. |

How do you rate the v1 compared to the Fuji? |

Iain- There are now 3 models of x100 The original, the x100s and very recently the x100t Each has a lot of improvements and in each case some of the improvements are handed down to the older models via firmware updates. I think the biggest jump was from the x100 to the x100s and that should be pretty heavlily discounted now that the x100t is available. That said, the x100 had a different sensor and many like the way it handles color better than the new sensor (which handles faster focus). They are all the ultimate pocket camera as far as I'm concerned...really excellent IQ in all sorts of conditions. Tom |

Oh very nice. Make sure that you get the latest firmware that was released earlier this week. If you need help then PM or email me or post here. Super high quality set of cameras with outstanding lenses. When the 140-400mm comes in 2015 then it will have an excellent lens range. Dont expect it to have speed of AF the same as Canon or Nikon but everything else is as good. |

All seems good so far Jonathan just been reading the manual for a few fine points but have got the hang of it. I'm impressed with how clean it is at 6400 ISO. All I need now is for this rain to stop so I get out and have a good play with it. |

I just got the 16-50 zoom at the moment and for the cheaper end of the fuji lenses it's sharp. I am finding I have very little to do to the files and jpeg's are good sotc. I'll invest in some better lenses later the 35 f1.4 being one of them. |

Beginning to get there already Tom. If I didn't need the big fast stuff for what sport I do and wildlife I'd be looking at a xt1 as well. |

However, having recently handled a new Sony mirror less model, I am of the opinion the Fuji VF is no longer that good! The Sony VF is brighter, more natural colour rendition (especially in artificial light) and with less digital interference. It will be interesting to see what the next Fuji VF is like! |

I havent used the Sony but I do know the lens range is pretty crappy. One thing I hate about Sony is that they seem to frefer to release a new/replacement model rather than fix a small camera fault that Fuji or Nikon would fix via firmware. On these two critical items I would not buy Sony even though their camera specifications always look incredible. IMHO The best small format system is the Olympus EMD5 as it has great specs, performance and lens range but unfortunately it is crippled by the use of the 4/3 sensor which I think is too small for professional and commercial work where you may be asked to make an A0 poster from a crop of an image. Such a shame! I think there will be an XPro2 or XE3 and possibly an XT2 announced/released in February 2015 and hopefully this will have 24MP in a similarly small camera. I need only the 140-400mm and possibly the 10-24mm to complete my lens range. If the new Fujis that come in 2015 can match closely the AF performance of my Nikons then I am afraid to say that I will let most of my Nikon kit go. Nikon seem to have missed the mirrorless APS-C boat as well as the DSLR DX pro-body boat!! |

I'm only a week or so into Fuji ownership and to be honest with the 140-400mm lens and if they bring the AF up to Nikon/Canon standard I'll be thinking of switching over as well. |

I didn't get a chance to try it but it had a Zeiss lens and the owner is really impressed with the IQ. But whatever the image quality, it's viewfinder brightness, colour fidelity and lack of electronic disturbance was much better than the Fuji. That's what fuji need to improve next time. :thumbsup: |

I use the 16-50 on my IR converted XE1. Unlike the more expensive zooms it has only minor a hotspot and it is nice and sharp at a good price....especially as I bought it used! |

My copy is sharp and used but buying the Fuji has given my a problem, I'm not happy because I didn't realise what I was missing in dynamic range with the Canon gear till I got the Fuji. Now I'm not happy. Why is the pursuit of perfection such a pain in the a**e.  |

Teehhee. If Canon can then ?anyone? can?. The level of detail out of the Fuji APS-C X-Trans sensor is better than any I have seen from Canon or Nikon equivalents! Enjoy. Just wait until you see results from other lenses in the Fuji range! |

The XT is 'better' than earlier models....but not sufficient that would recommend it for wild life or sports use. I am on the verge of getting rid of all my Nikon gear except for the 500mm, 300mm and 80-200mm. I just need a D400 to go with them for action subjects!! Fuji are evolving and improving all the time...I would be happy to use their equipment for all other subjects. |

That's the way I am after using the Fuji for the last week or so. The sports is almost nonexistent now so I just need something for wildlife. |

Depends on the kind of wildlife. I'm doing an ongoing study of Northern Map Turtles. An 8x10 view camera would be fast enough for them. |
