| Nikon D5300 vs Nikon D7000Which dslr I should by for around 60k INR | Rate Topic |

| Hi, I m planning to buy a dslr. My budget is around 60k. I am confused between d5300 and d7000. Which one I should go for. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

| Sandy, Welcome. re: My budget... With thar butget I would buy a duo of D4s cameras. If your currency is any other than USD/GBP/Euro please make that clear, grin. On your choice, the D7nnn series is a more grown-up camera, allowing the use of more (and older Nikon-) lenses. Regards, Gilbert

| Welcome to the forum. It is a difficult choice between D5300 and D7000. The D7200 is the latest model and there is also D7100 which are both 24MP compared with the 16MP D7000. Whilst pixels arent everything those extra pixel at 24MP give you better ability to crop if necessary. The battery on the D7x00 series cameras is better than the D5300. However the D5300 has GPS and WiFi connectivity - if you need it. If you are choosing between D5300 and D7000 only I would probably go for the D5300 as it is a newer model with all the improved electronics so the image may be a little better at higher ISOs. Best of all would be a D7100 or D7200.

| BTW Sandy lives in India so INR60k is equivalent to £600 or €$700/800.

| @Jk you are right...its 60k INR Thanks for all the suggestions. For your info I am not concerned about GPS/WIFI. I am preferring D7000 because as a semi pro DSLR I am expecting some more custom settings and better usability. Only thing i am concerned about is it has expeed 2 processor while D5300 has expeed 4. I have no idea about how much does that matter. Also is there any image quality difference in 18-140 and 18-105 kit lens

| Sandy, Thanks for the currency enlightenment. re: processor names Most of it is marketing-speak, and as anywhere each year's processor is a bit faster Also: do not get carried away by the marketing-driven megapixels, if you want to get the most out of any 20Mpx-plus camera, you need professional-grade (and price) lenses. The 18-140 tries to be somewhat upmarket, and is a later design by Nikon. Regards, Gilbert

The newer the version then the better the noise reduction usually and also the newer versions are faster. The longer the zoom range the more difficult and expensive the lens. The best Nikon zoom lenses in the performance stakes usually have a zoom range no more than x3.

| Having now discovered you are in India I would change my recommendation to the D7000....better still the D7100...or D7200 if your budget will stretch that far. This is because the D7000/7100/7200 are weather sealed...so will prevent dust ingress better than the D5300... which isn't weather sealed as well. Another benefit of the D7xxx cameras, apart from size in the hand, is that their controls are all accessible. I have heard that with the D5300 it's necessary to hunt through the menus to change some settings, which can be less than ideal. I've used the 18-105 lens on a D7000 and it's an excellent combination. I never tried the 18-140 but did try the 18-200 and found that it was a bit soft at 200mm. Other people have said their 18-200 was ok...others said that it was soft at 18mm !! All this suggests that the longer the zoom range, the greater the risk of some quality issues creeping in. As JK says, keeping the ratio low is better...but personally I found no fault with the 6x range of the 18-105.

| Hi Sandy Welcome to the forum I have the D7100 and among other lenses an 18 to 140 I use this combination as a walkabout kit and it works very well for me. I several better lenses but they are not as light or compact I would highly recommend the D7100 since you are not interested in the WIFI or GPS the D7200 offers The D7100 is a great camera and since it is not the current model the price has come down to about half of what it was brand new. I have found it to be easy to learn and use effectively Hope this helps Ed

| I have used both cameras and prefer the D5300. Can't find many DSLR's with it's features for the price. Purchased one after the D5500 came out.
