OK, I know, ANOTHER Apple thread!

I know some of us use Apple software for processing and lament the passing of Aperture and it's replacement with an App called 'Photos' Which seems so dumbed down and about as useless as a chocolate fireguard.

Well a couple of days ago I came across a plugin for the El Capitan version of Photos. Apple did promise to develop Photos over time and the addition of a plugin facility is it's first step. I haven't been able to mention this until now.

There is already one particularly interesting plugin which seems to replicate at least some of the develop features of Lightroom. It even seems to introduce a system of Layers of allow the image to be adjusted with separate effects for individual areas of the image.

Look for 'Tonality', from the info I have it seems pretty good, well worth checking out, if you are reluctant to shell out for the more expensive software, just to retouch and adjust the occasional image.

I use Tonality Pro for some of my B&W images and it works really well.

JK, is that stand alone software or a plugin for some other application?

Robert-

Believe me, I'm an Apple fanboy...but...they show no commitment to high end photo users. They are squarely aimed at the casual (lame) user of iPhone photos who so far have just shot and shot and have a camera roll of epic proportion, don't know how to make a folder, have no concept of archiving and/or tagging.

Aperture yesterday, Photos today, pictures tomorrow... Wast of time in my opinion.

Stick with Adobe or iView (oops, Capture One) or some SYSTEM that will survive intact.

Just my opinion...

Tom

I know Tom, That is my take too.

The reason I posted the links is that I know there are some who are happy to keep the processing side low key and don't have a need for higher level processing software. This is the first attempt I have seen by Apple to cater for the more serious enthusiast and so I felt I needed to share that here.

After all, images from recent and current cameras need very little in the way of post processing, save a small tweak to the tones and perhaps a simple crop and rotate to get the horizon straight!

I agree but then again we need to consider where Steve Jobs positioned Apple.
Apple is a hardware producer and seller. Software is an also ran! I still dont understand why Apple and Microsoft never got closer together to kill/control the whole marketplace. Probably a clash of two giant egos but definitely a missed opportunity. We could have had a great set of hardware supported by a decent OS from Microsoft or Apple OSX for enterprise use. Sorry but Microsoft software is too buggy for serious enterprise use where you dont want to reboot your machine every day.

Re the photography apps from Apple they are all gone now :-(
Also unfortunately I think that that we are moving to a dumbing down of photography die to the current narcissism and lack of appreciation of quality output.

I reckon Bill Gates got in enough Anti Trust problems without an alliance with Apple!

I agree though the hardware is without compare, I don't really know how the software compares though as my Windows knowledge is years out of date now.
