You may know this, but if you don't...HOLD OFF on using the new Adobe updates.

Especially the Lightroom update - they have seen serious problems resulting from it and have issued yet another update ( 6.2.1 ) but users still report many problems.

I personally dodged a bullet and turned off auto update because I was traveling. I got an email from Laura Shoe (who normally advises auto updating for every Adobe product) that there would be problems with the new version. As an aside, when I finally decided to move to LR5, I purchased a series of her videos to really speed up the learning process - loved them - and she continues to email advice if you sign up for her blog (highly recommended).

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Tom, I didn't know, I have had a few crashes in the last few days but nothing disastrous, I am currently running 2015.2 release. Main occasions being if left unused in the background then brought back into use, can crash unexpectedly. Sometimes I have upwards of half a dozen major applications running at the same time.

Otherwise it seems to be performing well, I just ran batches of 2000 JPEG images through multiple processes with no issues. Maybe a little slow but my hardware isn't the most recent, I need a fusion drive... ;-)

OK, this morning I downloaded the latest CC version of Lightroom, 2015.2.1, which claims to fix the crashes and performance issues.

I will report back any issues I may have, although I only have a vague benchmark because I don't tend to fall off my chair if an Application crashes, I simply re-start and carry on where I left off.

We will see...

I use LR6.1.1 for my cataloguing.
I havent seen the LR6.2.1 update offered. Got to say that LR7 is probably not on my purchase list, if it is subscription only then it is goodbye to Adobe.

In some of the other forums they are going bats**t over the dumbing down of the import functions and god knows what else...

I have held off updating to El Capitan and all Adobe updates until this whole thing settles down.

It seems like Apple updates have become the same goofball experience as windows were (no idea how well they work now or not) and I'm not auto updating anything any more. Once everyone says that's the update they should have released first, then I'm on board :-)

Adobe looks really really bad on this one. They admit that they knew there were some serious faults with the software and released it anyhow...shocked to see how bad it really turned out...

They must be drunk from toasting over at Capture One today :-)

Tom, the El Capitan update worked impeccably on my MacMini but I still need to apply it to my MacPro units. I have done it for them as I was busy just after the El Capitan release preparing for my trip to UK. I will do my Macbook Air when I get back from travelling and also my two MacPro units.

My old 2007/2008 Macbook Pros are stuck on Lion due to their age!

Cant see any real benefits on El Capitan onther than some twiddles. I havent had time to do any performance tests.

Capture One Pro 8 runs fine on all my machines Yosemite or El Capitan.

My three Mac mini's and my Mac Book Pro 13" are all running (developer) 10.11.1 and have been since day one of it's release, 10.11.0 never gave me any issues and I have run all the developer beta versions and their updates. I have been 100% happy with my experience.

I have stopped going on the ASC (Apple Support Community) forum because of all the idiots on there who would find life threatening issues with a glass of water. I don't care what product is out there, somebody will find an issue with it and then others jump on the band waggon and repeat it amplified a hundred times. Before long you have a hate culture, which can be infectious.

I simply use the computers and make my own judgments and enjoy my computing experience. If I do have an issue, which is rare, I sort it.

Apple are in the hardware and supporting Operating System business, they also produce some Application Software for simplistic use by people who's needs (and skills?) are limited, anybody who needs more, should buy or rent properly designed professional level software from specialised software creators who make that their main focus.

I did have an issue with Lightroom which I raised on the Adobe Lr forum, the well experienced and knowledgable chap who answered my call for assistance with Lightrooms mapping module becoming excessively slow when presented with large numbers of images to have their GPS data added was surprised at my difficulties, never having attempted what I was doing, he endeavoured to help me by suggesting workarounds using additional, third party external software. Within two days the next Lr. update was released, fixed the bug and the issue disappeared completely!

The deeper I get into Lightroom CC the better I like it, it really is a capable application and together with Photoshop CC @ £8.57 a month is perfectly affordable, in my view really good value for money. Never having smoked I just checked out the price of a packet of 20 cigarettes, to my amazement they ranged from £8.36 to £9.39 per packet.

I am NOT an Apple Fanboy, but I am very definitely a very happy camper.

My reluctance to install El Cap is that it won't work with office for mac...

When that is solved (think it is an issue on MS side), I will quickly embrace all the new goodness in El Cap !!!

Good to hear it Tom!

Excel (15.14) is running well enough right now on mine with quite complex spreadsheets. Don't use Power Point and very rarely Word, have never even looked at One Note... I don't really do music, being pretty deaf, well, perhaps not pretty!!! o.O

Don't know if it's different because I'm on subscription but I have to say I don't like the new import.

On Lightroom Iain?

I don't ever import, I add a new folder to my main photography folder in the finder then populate it with my latest image, I then synchronise my main Photography folder in Lightroom.

I will take a look later when I add my current new images.

There is a new Lightroom import update that restores the import process to the original process.

JK-

Think you got tricked on that...new LR update does NOT restore import process. Ver. 6.3 is announced and will restore it but no date for release.

If you like importing (I do) then best not to do any of the Adobe updates until they fix them.

What have they actually done which you don't like Tom?

I tried importing my last batch of images but the computer went on a go-slow and it took about an hour to import 132 D200 NEF's (the SD card was plugged directly into my i7 Quad Mac mini) which I don't think was to be expected, it normal takes a few seconds, maybe a minute? I take these little glitches in my stride but I still haven't experienced an issue except I never import, so I don't know what it's supposed to look like...

o.O

BTW, Last night I did a massive MS Office update, so perhaps that's sorted now?

They have really dropped the ball with this one. I run updates regularly
and automatically and I was shocked and appalled when I went to import my latest set of photos, I've been a bit of a recluse of late and so had no idea of the scope of the changes. Good news is that Adobe have realised they have pissed off a lot of their customer base and will be reverting to the old interface in the next update.
