Hi everyone,

I sold my Nikon D610 and 16-35 f4G lens. I plan to buy something good for landscape and long exposure. Could you suggest a camera and a lens (24-70 maybe?) for $4-5k max?

Thanks.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Well I use a Nikon D3 (soon to be D3S) and the Nikkor 24-120 f4, or my trusty Nikkor 20mm f2.8D, a formidable tool. Produces wonderful images.

For long exposures with digital, your better (depending on the subject) making several shorter exposures and blending them together, either in Lightroom, or in Photoshop where you have more control of the process. This helps avoid noise, which even the very best digital sensors produce when they become warm (hot).

What was wrong with the D610, that you sold it? It's a good camera.

Hi welcome to the forum.

Like Robert I have the 24-120 f4 AFS VR and it is a great lens. If I was starting again the I would get this lens again with a 70-300 f4-5.6 or depending on your needs the Nikon 200-500mm which is great for birds and aircraft. The AF on this lens when mated with the D500 and soon hopefully my D850 makes for a combo that is 'the fastest kid on the block'.

Camera body choice is extensive. The D500 is a steal as it is really an APS-C D5.

If you were getting poor landscapes with that combo, then maybe your technique was at fault?

A 24-70, which is a great lens, may not be wide enough at 24 mm for some landscapes...it's more of a general lens.

If you are wanting to do long exposures I would steer clear of mirrorless cameras at the moment...you will be forever changing batteries.

I would also go for an FX body, as DX bodies lose even more width.
