In an idle moment I followed up a link about the Sony alpha camera a7.

It seems Sony have released an update which eats small stars, mistaking them for hot or dead pixels. It doesn't touch larger brighter stars but 'cleans up' all the smaller and fainter stars.

Here is a link to an open letter to Sony:

https://www.lonelyspeck.com/why-i-no-longer-recommend-sony-cameras-for-astrophotography-an-open-letter-to-sony/

While it may have been well intentioned and possibly helpful for some users it's effectively wrecked the intended usability for astro photography users who have upgraded their cameras firmware.

As usual with FW upgrades it's not possible to revert to previous versions of firmware.

That's progress for you... OS's should allow us to pick and choose the features we need and remove those we don't.

I don't want anything to do with gaming, music or social media on my computer but I am stuck with it. Total waste of space and nothing more than a distraction.

Image storage and processing, data processing, internet research and word processing is all I need or want. Anything else should need opting into rather than being stuck with.

Couldnt agree more Robert.
Same applies to cameras! Don't want video, in camera processing or the myriad of menu options. As I've said before....more choices just make choosing harder.
