JK,
Why quote the rumours page, as the trusted real thing is available, e.g.:
From Nikon Europe

That isnt the version I am referring to.
Notice this new software comes in April 2019!

The Nikon Press Centre is not very useful as the release tends to be lacking in detail and does not have as much advanced warning of happenings.

I dont know as I havent looked but XQD are not cheap as at moment there are only two manufacturers. Also only a limited number of cameras use them.

This was why I was looking for an XQD to SD adapter card.

It is meant to be at or immediately after Easter (19 April) according to the rumour mills but it may be early May.

Well the original date was 19th April but I am seeing dates in early May so either they are refining and adjusting or something has caused a major problem.  The Japanese dont like missing release dates so you can bet they are woking 24/7 to get it here on time (whenever that is 19 April or early May).

A D500 specific firmware update.
https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/323.html

Not the fabled Eye AF for all the cameras which is what I am waiting for but it does solve some reported issues with the D500.

This is in the firmware notes!!.........

"Updating from “C” Firmware Versions 1.00 through 1.12 to Version 1.20

You will need to perform the update twice. Performing the update for a second time completes the firmware update.
During the first update, the camera may or may not display the message, “Update failed. Contact a Nikon-authorized service representative.” Continue with the second update regardless.
Performing the Second Update
Complete Steps 4 through 6 of “Updating the Camera Firmware”.
A Note on the Second Update
Note that the firmware version may or may not change as a result of the first update. If the firmware version has changed, the “Current” and “New” versions displayed in the “Update?” dialog will be the same; otherwise, the two versions will be different.
In either case, the firmware version will be updated when you perform the update a second time.
SnapBridge App Unable to Connect
If the SnapBridge app is unable to connect to the camera after the update, you may not have performed the second update.
Select Connect to smart device in the camera SETUP MENU to display the app and camera name; if the Bluetooth icon does not flash in the display, you will need to perform the update again."

Never seen this before where you need to apply an update TWICE to make it complete.

Well I have updated my D500.
Did it the two times as recommended by Nikon to ensure that everything is done correctly.

I read that as ....the double update referred only to versions 1.0 > 1.12. (as per the title). The current version is 1.15....so doesn't need the double hit.

I find this very strange as it is binary like 1/0, yes/no, either it works or it doesnt!  Hey whatever as long as it still works and better then I will apply it.

Next step is the EyeAF for the Z7.
That will be very useful but not a must have.
I have it on the Fujis and rarely remember to switch it on.  Too much faff to find the item in the menus!

Interesting....mine said v 1.15 before upgrading

I havent applied some of the D500 updates as they seemed to be very video oriented.
This latest update does bring some important fixes and improvements.
I hope the next one in May will bring Eye AF which will be useful to stills and video users.

However I guess my view is "if I wanted video then I would buy myself a video camera".  A good video camera really does knock spots off a DSLR from what I have seen.

I see people showing stuff taken by mobile phones either stills or video and they are raving over quality, etc., but I just think silently "we live in such a superficial world that has little respect for real craft and quality and in fact it is all about a very narcissistic and ego centric view of the world", if you look at the image at A4 size then most phone images ate pretty rubbish.  That applies to 99.99999% of them.
Sorry if this sounds cynical or depressive.

There are some hugely talented people out there whose work I would rather respect and admire than showing my own images which occasionally are pretty good but in real creative terms could be viewed as mediocre.  Maybe I am too critical and set the quality barriers too high.

New firmware is here but there doesn't seem to be anything exciting in it.

I understand that the new EyeAF feature will come in a firmware version higher than the recently v1.20 release firmware.

D850, D7500 and D5600 firmware updates now available.

https://www.dpreview.com/news/8252606558/nikon-firmware-updates-add-direct-wi-fi-connectivity-to-d850-d5600-and-d7500

I have updated my D850 but still need to assess if there are any adverse aspects (usually not but always need to test).

Z7 firmware coming next Thursday 16 May. :applause:
