Some of you may not be aware, but the wonderful AI and Generative Fill features that have been added this year don’t come unconditionally.

Each month you have a fixed number of Credits or clicks you can use.

When they are used up at the moment the only penalty is Photoshop runs slower (not sure if that’s on all functionality or just the generative fills / AI??)  but it makes me wonder if Adobe will start metering out these new add on features in the same way as limited minutes/text on mobile phones, whereby if you go over your limit you start to pay more and expensively!  Something to watch.

Because I have been experimenting a lot with these new features it’s no surprise that I have already exhausted my credits this month. At the moment I am still able to use the features but need to monitor it carefully next month when Adobe set in place their new strategy for these features.

The sad thing about this is that I can understand them charging/limiting the AI part of the program as it’s using their stock images as well as the programming. But it also includes the generative fill which is a super slick alternative to manual cloning.  It means every time you lasso a picture defect or extend the canvas and hit generative one of your credits has gone!!!

Adobe are suggesting that if I want more credits than the 100 they are giving with the £10/month subscription, I can always change my plan = pay more /month!

I am not bothered about charging for AI because it’s something that I am unlikely to use much having now experimented with it, but the generative fill is and extremely useful slicker alternative to cloning out unwanted details.

This could entail multiple applications on a single image which would restrict how much you could achieve each month.

Photoshop subscription is not cheap to start with and I think they hope to not price themselves out of the market by just upping the subs - so charging per use for enhancements probably makes commercial sense.

Ebay are introducing a "new regulatory operating fee" of .35% on top of their selling fees - much the same sort of underhand method of getting more profit!

Rarely use eBay these days. Losing 14% of the sale price from selling and payment charges not to mention low sale prices and postage have made it a no brainer for me when selling photo gear, I go to WEX. Their prices are usually good for A+ equipment (assuming they haven’t got several of your items on the shelf already) and they give the same price for cash deals as they do for PX. They collect for free so no postage.

I have sold some stuff to MPB and got better net prices than Ebay. But sometimes the auction "frenzy" boosts prices beyond normal even after fees - I always list stuff when there is an 80% off fees deal going.

Eric, Thank You for you posting your experiments with AI, as it shows it is Not for me.

I will happily stay with NX-Studio .

Whilst the background replacement feature is fun to play with, it's not going to take over my future photographs.
However, I fully expect to do some simple tidying up with some images ( eg removing distracting details like branches, people or just debris in the frame).
The generative fill feature which is an advance over manual cloning, is a very useful feature. It speeds up cloning no end!
So I am a little miffed that its restricted in its use, within the already expensive monthly Adobe Photography subscription.

I am also a bit confused as to why I only have 100 credits when Graham has 250 (the figure Adobe claim I should have on this same plan as Graham).
Something to pursue with Adobe.

Well you can use my Credits.
How do I find out how many I have?
Is it only on My Account?

Well I have the answer as to why I only have 100 credits compared to other people on the same monthly plan as me who get 250.

Timing........

I will just have to do less tidying on my images.  :needsahug:

Double Rainbow in our little local park on my evening walk. iPhone and I did a little work with the AI erase tool and removed an ugly structure. Have also done some editing on another photo using AI tools and just checked my Credit count still is as per 247/250 yesterday count. Still plenty of this month's credits to work with.

Hi Jonathan
I have the same £9.98 account.
Let me walk you through what I did……

I clicked on the multicoloured Adobe Cloud logo….

and got this page………

I  clicked on the Manage account link top right and got this page……

Then in the very top right corner there is a small version of the one eyed multicoloured logo, which I clicked on to get this drop down……

As you can see I have only 100 credits / month (which reset on 25th my anniversary date) and I used 6 credits doing some generative filling on a friends photo yesterday. It was a simple edit and yet 6 credits went.:whip:

I only have 100 because I only started the Photoshop subscription on 25 Nov 2023. Had I done it a month earlier! I would have 250 each month…..for those who subscribed before 1st Nov. 2023

Not happy I missed the extra 150 by 24 days.:whip:

I will subcontract my editing to you and Graham when I hit 0

N.B.  Simply procedure for those who have limited credits…..:needsahug:

Mask ALL the areas in your photo that require generative fill at the same time.
Your image may look like a lot of marching ant patches but add them all to the selection.
…..THEN select generative fill.

It doesn’t matter how many separate areas are masked around the image, it’s still regarded as just 1 fill = 1 credit.
