Hi, just bought a D1X, not too many still in use in South Africa, so I will be on the forum many times if things go wrong, here's hoping the camera will last many years.
I have been a photographer since early twenties, now 44, had many camera's but have never moved too far from Nikon. I have a F90X, and now the D1X.

Look forward to trying the D1X out this Sat at my daughters 6th Birthday party.

Welcome aboard, The D1x is a good camera. Solved the issues with the D1 and some feel it produces better images than the D2x, despite being a lower resolution.

The big thing to watch is the batteries, they have a fairly short life, and relatively low capacity. Refresh charge every third or so charge to maximise battery life. These batteries must be getting hard to find now. JK and I have both had great success building our own Li-Ion versions, check out JK's site for details.

With a good Nikon battery 250-350 images per charge are about what to expect, my Li-Ion conversions can take well over 1000 images per charge.

The biggest asset (apart from the free film) with the digital camera is the histogram, get into the hang of checking it before and during every session.

Welcome to the forum.

The D1X is a great camera. I have had many double page magazine spreads with its images. It is better, in many ways, than the D2X.

The key to making it perform is good glass, several batteries....plus getting out and using it!

Look forward to seeing you photos.

Welcome to the forum.

I still have my D1X and also the custom batteries that I made to replace the ones from Nikon. If you want details of how to make the batteries then look on my website http://www.jmknights.com
See here for the various battery pojects and CCD cleaning info. http://www.jmknights.com/photography/downloads/index.html

If you need help then we have many people who have the D1X who can help you with most items.
