Since I dont have easy access these days to the latest cameras I was wondering.......

Has anyone done a comparison of the D600 v. D7000 with respect to resolution and general image quality?

The only thing I could find was from the incomparably vague Ken Rockwell.

It says nothing really!

This one seems better.

Dont like those DPReview tests as they are almost as useless as the DXO ones that I see quoted.
The detail in the actual review of the D600 makes for better comparison and there are few side by side comparions.

JK, how can you expect anything meaningful from KR?

Some more comparison here:

Discovered that the D600 hasn't got the one press on the back rocker switch to zoom full frame function. Another reason why I was right not to buy. ;-)

Eric,
re hasn't got ...
If one looks more in-depth, things like a flash-PC and 10-pin remote are also lacking.
I was surprised that the D600 does have an AF motor and Ai-ring.
In another review, the D600 was criticised for the slownesss of buffer-write-to-SD (by a reviewer who had D4 experience).
I handled a D600 some months ago, and I still do not like the feel of the camera.
Regards, Gilbert

Yes I recall your previous comments and haven't even bothered to go and handle one.
You saved me some money ;-)

Eric,
re: saved some...
Good on you.
To counter any hints of Nikon bashing here: the D600 may be the perfect camera for those who wants a full-frame (FX) camera and have hands the size of a Japanese lady.

:rofl: Dont know any japanese ladies!
However I was considering a D600 if it fits in my underwater housing. :-)
With the housing on the D600 you need to have large rufty tufty diver hands to hold the housing.

You just need a geisha to load it into the housing.

I keep forgetting to answer this.......
Apparently it is on the Nikon firmware update list for the one press magnify item.
However until it arrives it would be just vapourware or rumour and an aggravation in real world use.

To my mind the D600 is more similar to the D7000, D90 etc

If we ignore sensor size and resolution only the D800 compares favourably to the D300S and D700

When I worked in retail I handled insurance replacements where equal or better was often specified
At the moment, were the D300S to be discontinued, the D800 is the correct replacement for a D300S for the reasons outlined by Gilbert

We have to think of the D600 as full frame consumer/entry level enthusiast while the D800 is the Full Frame Prosumer/Entry Level Pro

The D7100 is the DX consumer/entry level enthusiast with the D300S still acting as DX Prosumer/Entry Level Pro (just shows how far ahead of it's time that camera was)

I can't believe Nikon wouldn't continue to make cameras for this segment
