The cold weather is keeping me indoors and with no cheap lenses available to restore I have moved on to something a bit bigger!

As intricate as a lens and cleanliness and lubrication just as important...

It does now - I stripped it right down and cleaned / polished the gears/shafts/spring drums/etc and gave it a new spring suspension for the pendulum. The face was stripped down to the component parts and the brass plate stripped, polished and lacquered. I spray painted the central disc with a gold metallic as it was impossible to clean the textured surface, I left the silvered chapter ring and quarters alone. The case just needed a good wax and polish.

It stikes correctly now but the Westminster chimes are off and I can't work out why that is.

What a super job. Kemps still have a shop in Union Street in Bristol. The city centre area known now as Broadmead was redeveloped in the 1950's after WW2 bombing. But kept the street pattern and names.

Yes, I know, I worked in Bristol on and off in the 1980s. I believe the clock dates from around the 1920s - modern reproductions sell for around £1500 so I have no idea what it is worth but as a family heirloom it is going nowhere!
