Hi everyone I've recently gone from a Sony cybershot to a D 7000. I use it to take photos relating to my model railway, so they are pretty close up. I also take macros of solder joints and other boring stuff - not very well as yet. I'm about to dive in and read all the threads I can manage and then I hope I can ask intelligent questions. Cheers

Welcome to the Forum Max. I'm also AUS based but in Melbourne! we also age a very knowlegedable member from Adelaide calle Doug who pops in from time to time. The D7000 is a nice camera, what lens do you use for your Macro work?

Hi and Welcome to the forum Max. Lots of expertise here if you need to ask a question sure somebody will know the answer, or come close! I had a Sony Cybershot back in 05, until my wife decided to test it's impact resistance from five feet onto concrete, the concrete won. The replacement was a Nikon D1, she wasn't encouraged to handle the D1 although my son, deputising, carried out the same test, this time the D1 survived, but the lens wasn't too good, although it did still work after a bit of fiddling, the lens went on eBay eventually... Speaking of soldering my son Michael who dropped the D1, made this himself when he was nine, it's about a foot high, made of copper and soldered together. Thanks, Rick. I have a Raynox DCR-250 clip on conversion lens for the time being. My wife, Wendy just picked up a D 90 from one of my railway mates. Hardly used; so we're set up pretty well, as it has a couple of lenses. Thanks, Robert. He's done a neat job of that.

Hi Max, Welcome to the forum. Hope you like it here and that we can help you with your Nikon. I'll say a double welcome as Max is also a UltraBB Admin and we met up on the forum there when I was asking about how to do stuff for here.

I have one of those Raynox units, they make a very good light macro attachment.

Hi Max, Welcome I'm also from Adelaide (Mawson Lakes) and though I don't get much chance to reply on the forum these days, I often pop in to see what's happening. Doug

Thanks, Doug. We just drove past your place on the way home from a family reunion at Tanunda. Of course, I forgot my camera! Cheers
