Very interesting as he is a professional portrait and product photographer doing landscapes and street photography.

Working commercially, there is a tendency to get in a rut mainly because you attract a client base that requires the same sort of photography. I recently summarised my commercial work, for an interested party, into 10 categories..... Hotel interiors and functions, Engineering machinery fabrication, Architectural metalwork, Kitchens and home improvements, Work/Leisure/Safety wear, Agricultural machinery and processes, Indoor and outdoor furniture, Plastic moulding, Haulage transport and storage, Educational equipment and supplies.

By and large, all these situations, whether in studio or on location required the same sort of set up. Tripod, lighting and depth of field control. So there is definitely a tendency to run on automatic. The only creative satisfaction comes from varying composition.

So embracing ...or actually revisiting (as I have years ago done landscapes and birding in non professional mode)... different subjects, can be daunting and frustratingly difficult to re-educate your photographic eye and skill set.

I confess my days of getting up at 5am to trudge up hills and along shorelines are behind me. (Apart from when Graham comes to visit ðŸ˜†) I am afraid the comfort of a nice warm bed (and partner ðŸ˜‰) are too strong a pull.

I thought his landscapes were very good...not sure if he did them all in one day or more?

Having done architectural, office and street photography ...I didn't think much of his second video. Sorry.

I agree with most of what Eric said, like him my working life from 1958 to retirement 2010 was as a commercial and advertising photographer (a lot of the time in studios) to a very high tec standard but most of time hands tied by art directors and sales directors in large companies. Working in Rhodesia 1962-1975 was far more creative mostly for, tourist publicity for airlines and national parks. I had many weeks over several years working on my own in some very wild parts of Southern Africa taking wildlife photos, hence my return now as a retired photographer to bird photography.
