The latest Affinity ‘suite’ is very good if you want todo drawing and page layout as well as photo editing in one package.

Bizarrely an old client called in just before Christmas and pleaded with me to design a brochure for him “one last time” (only been retired 7 years”) Not having Quark Express or Pagemaker anymore I used Affinity to draft something out for him. Will be picking it up and see how seamless the preflight process is in the new year.

The whole suite is still free but their AI module is an add on which you need to pay a subscription for.

The suite is currently only available for desktops. iPad and tablet versions in 2026.

The photo editing part is like Affinity 1 & 2. It’s reasonably intuitive but has a few annoying failings compared to Photoshop that still is my go to choice now I am back on full fat computers.

I havent installed the latest version of Affinity from Canva.
I have it ready for install but I dont really have the need at present.  I do prefer Photoshop for editing.

Yes there’s a “slickness yet traditional feel” to PShp procedures (maybe it’s me being conditioned after 30yrs use8-))
I can rattle through Affinity editing but I occasionally hit “how do they do that?” moments, which invariable cause me to say “why on earth did they do it that way?” when I discover their method…..and then forget how to do it the next time I want it!!!

The new Canva version comes into its own when you are planning to do more with your photos than just editing them.  Adding them to a page layout or making some artwork, you can slide between the applications quite easily. It’s a bit like a combined Photoshop/illustrator/InDesign in one place. But again, it’s all a bit alien to use when you have been schooled on Adobe products.

i have to swallow hard and say “you get what you don’t pay for”. :needsahug:
