| Lightroom 4 vs. Elements 10 | Rate Topic |

| Greetings, I was wondering...I have Lighroom 4 and so far I really like it. I know that I could install Elements 10 and work on it from Lightroom. I'm just wonderting if there is an advantage to having Elements when I have LR 4? I did buy a tutorial dvd for LR 4, that was a big help. Amazing all the different things you can do. I'm not real fast with it yet, but I do this for pleasure and not a living. Thanks, Ric

| I think that for standard photo editing Lightroom is as good as most photos need. However if you want to composite, use layers, edit something out or in that is not in the image, or go more artistic then a version of Photoshop comes into play. I think they go very well together. However if all you want is to optimise an existing image then Lightroom pretty much has it covered.

| I agree with Rich. LR4 provides very good editing for digital (or digitized) photos. I have no experience however with Elements. - EdM

| Elements is like Photoshop junior!. I think that if you have used Photoshop CS2,3,4,5 then you would be frustrated by Elements. It is however easier to use than Lightroom for Layer editing  as LR doesnt have this unless you purchase OnOne Perfect Layers2 for Lightroom or download the free version1.

| Thank you everyone for your input. For now, I will stay with Lightroom 4. I am primarily hoping that that LR will keep my camera going for at least another year. Then I'll think about moving on from the D200. Will still be DX, I just can't justify the added expense of FX lenses. Thanks again, Ric

| I think that is a good plan Ric, There is nothing 'wrong' with the D200 Ok, higher ISO would be nice but the D200 can take very good photographs. I have always bought full frame lenses, from day one. The only DX lens I have is the Sigma 10-20. My mistake if you can call it that is not to have bought the latest AFS lenses, most of my lenses dates from film days and while they are a select set of lenses chosen for their resolving power, are no match, or at least I don't think they are, for the modern digitally corrected AFS lenses of today. I have always seen DX as a temporary solution until Nikon figured how to make a proper sensor. It seems DX WILL live on but the FX models will take the high ground. For my part I think a D700 may be on the horizon if I can't find a D3 in my price range (very cheap!) lol. I don't think my glass will be any good for anything higher than the D3 resolution, because I don't have and will never afford AFS glass.

| Thanks Robert, You're right, there isn't anything wrong with the D200. As long as you keep it @ ISO400 or below, it takes great pictures. It's what I am going to use on my trip to Alaska this summer. I don't mind the weight, I ve hiked some distances with it before. So far, I really like LR 4. I find it much easier to use than Elements. I don't fully understand layers on LR or PS. I'll get there eventually. Ric

| I am still using Lr3 I tried the beta Lr4 and liked it a lot. I will get Lr4 in due course.

| I upgraded from PSE 9 to LR 4 , it takes some getting use to but i really like it. my only issue is trying to figure out how to export to my wordpress and zenfolio seemlessly . that is a major pain so far

| Installation instructions are here: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/plugin-installation As for unzipping there should be a utility on your PC to do that? I am assuming you are using a PC because the Mac OS usually automatically presents downloaded zipped files as a disk image which simply needs a double click. Try a google search for unzip?
