1^st Post

I went back to my home town in Yorkshire last week to decorate my father's house. I haven't driven this road into town for some time...so imagine my surprise to see the old grain silo buildings put to another use.

I looked longingly at the new facility....why didn't they have that when I was a keen young rock climber?

I said to the wife "do you think they might let me have a go?"

She looked at me with THAT expression that ladies seem to muster when hearing testosterone in full flow.

" let's see" she replied " leaving aside how wobbly you were on the steps painting Dads ceilings....ignoring your 14stone and arthritic toes....they don't have a toilet halfway up!"

Wives can be so incisive.

What a great use of redundant buildings? The inside has internal climbing and full fitness centre.

I think I saw a new item on this while I was in UK. Agree that it is great to see reuse of these old buildings.

We have a climbing centre inside an old church in Elgin. Of course the famous one is the Foundry in Sheffield which is, as its name suggests.

Yes I know of the city centre climbing schools like Sheffield ...but this is little old Brighouse, my home town. Population only about 20,000. It was quite a backwater when I lived here...apart from Brighouse and Rastrick band. :applause:

Little old Elgin has about the same population. I can';t help but think its a better use of some of the old building than some. We don't need more cafes, pubs, clubs, or heavens forbid 'wine bars'

You could put them on the top floor...make the clientele work for their beverage. ;-)

In Canada you'd need an elevator for a top floor bar to allow access to the disabled.
