Have driven past this site up to 10 time a week at least, for years. I only just visited it, I usually never have time or it's wet etc. Anyway I finally dipped my toe in the water so to speak. Foulshaw is know for it's breeding pair of Ospreys, which have been returning to the same nest site for several years.

According to Google Earth, the Ospreys nest is 850 Metres from the nearest access, so my 300mm lens is close to useless, even on the D3300.

So I have enjoyed the stuff I can reach, although a minor disaster occurred when I discovered my Benbo tripod has lost a leg. I was reduced to having a bipod for the visit because I had left my large tripod at home. Sharpness suffered, badly.

This is a small selection of the photographs I took at Foulshaw yesterday.

Marsh cinquefoil (Comarum palustre)
Nikon D3 Nikkor 70-300 VR @ 260mm 1/800sec, f/5.6, ISO 3200

Reflections of nature, an HDR with three frames.

A colourful thistle!

Last but not least, my best effort of catching a woody woodpecker!

I have ambitions for uniting it with a tree but that much prove too much.

I did take some attempts at the Osprey nest with the D3300 and 70-300 VR but haven't looked at them yet, if I can discern anything from the mush I might post it.

This disgusting mess is the best I can do with my 70-300 VR on D3300 using a bipod.

The two white things are CCTV cameras which are supposed to broadcast live video but don't.

I can't decide if there is a bird visible or not. At 850 Metres it's a push. This a 100% crop at 24Mp 1 sensor pixel to 1 screen pixel, equivalent to a 36Mp FX sensor.

The video link is working again, just watching the chicks being fed.
