They work for small light cameras or flashes but I'd hesitate to put a DSLR on one.

Monopod? 60% of the steadiness for 25% of the packing space?

You can get ones beefed up for DSLRs but I have never had the need to try one.

I use the gorilla pods for flash guns that I clamp to a bit of furniture (out of shot) to get lighting into corners etc.

I didnr realise they had a range of gpods that went up to 6lbs. That must be quite a beefy gorilla!

Had a look at the joby site and see what you mean. Also the designs are all very similar so there is a lack of scale when you see them on a web page.

Maybe a bean bag? If you can find something to put is on works really well.

I use a gorillapod focus with the ball head for macro work. It works like the label says.

It looks very Heath Robinson, but no worse than my plamps? It just works in a kind of understated way.

OK up to the Nikkor 200 on the D4
