Yes I agree with you.
The V1 had a very discrete bump but the V2 seems to have a warty lump as they have added in a flash on the top directly in line with lens axis - great for red eye!!

However if the IQ is better then it's a winner. I dont however think that the V2 should have stuck with the 1" sensor. A DX sized one would have made it a killer but it would have been a bigger camera.
I suppose that this might come as a V3 or V4.

You guys started this thread just before me!

It is profoundly ugly ... in the sense that the NEX series from Sony is ugly. But it has a kind of functional look to it and the 14 MP is an improvement on the V1.

I don't necessarily agree with JK about the 1" sensor. There is a distinct niche for the sub-DX format. Whether it will survive a head to head with 4/3 is a question (think Betamax and VHS)

I am probably quite interested to try one ... anyone looking for a V1?

I think that the 1" sensor will in time get better and deliver similar IQ to DX so Yes it does have future prospects.

However if you are looking for a jump in IQ from P'n'S then it will deliver that very well now.

A similar situation exists, my DX sized X100 and XPro1 provide very much similar quality to my D3. This is not something I would have believed possible in 2007.

So in 2017 the 1" sensors maybe as good as the DX sensors of today. :wine:

Ed, I cant believe that the prices for the V1 kits are now as low as they are. Seems like your V1 will make for a nice pocket/briefcase camera.

I couldn't believe my eyes when my wife first showed me what she took in the dark with Canon's S95. All of the pictures were sharp and virtually noise free, and only showed a slight trace of noise reduction. However despite the aperture setting you can never blur the background adequately.

I heard that Canon had filed a patent application about a new lens design that improves background blurring. Let's see if this helps.

Jac (my wife) has a V1 which she loves, and it'll slip into her handbag. This looks a bit clunky to do that well?

Been looking at more detailed photos of the V2 today.

The pictures dont do it justice. It is actually still quite small its just the bulge on top that looks odd!. The functionality looks very much better. I much prefer the wheel control for MASP on top of body.
