People haven't sussed that the best time to shop is an hour before closing, while they are restocking the shelves and there are pallets of new stock to raid!

It's the same with home delivery slots. A well known tabloid reported that Tesco released their slots at midnight. Now, the world and his wife are burning the midnight oil, sitting in a virtual queue only to find there are no slots 'left'. (Did it myself on a couple of nights till the penny dropped.)

Supermarkets have a long list of extremely vulnerable people who have first dibs at slots. This means the general populous don't get a look in till Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. In fact, if you log on (round here at least) on a Thursday there seems to be more slots within days. I do wonder if people put a weekly 'foot down' then release the slot when a better later slot comes up. Just a theory but I wait till Thursday each week.

I read somewhere that the slots are only released for a couple of days at a time - I have seen slots appear randomly at any time of day, any day of the week.

I have given up on home deliveries now - if one of my sons is in Tescos he calls us and gets anything we want, but I am doing 90% of the shopping in a couple of visits to Morrisons each week -  it is only a few hundred yards from us.

I dont understand why people are not doing bulk shopping for a whole month. I know there is a financial aspect to this but......
There is only a need for weekly or alternate week shopping for vegetables and fruit.

We should be aiming for 'minimal external/outside of household interaction if we want to get rid of C19 quickly.

Technically the virus lives for 15-21 days in an infected person.  If you isolate that person completely at first signs of infection (day 5-14, when they become infectious) and if there has been no onward infection then you have an immune and recovered person about 28 days later (day 33-42).
If we ALL isolate absolutely for 15-21 days then the R value goes to zero in 21 days.

The problem is people (doctors, nurses, carers and hospital workers) moving around from work place to home and back again.  This needs to be much more carefully managed than it is being currently.  In the past we had nurses/doctor accommodation at each hospital this has been sold off or converted to other use. So now health workers go from work to shops, to home, to work in an infectious circle.  They either get infected at work, or in the shops by those in the population who are carriers or have been recently infected.

The health workers need to be quarantined and treated as 'very special people'. They should be getting free 7* accommodation, with food and services so they can work effectively away from home for 21-28 days.
They need to be tested daily for infection so that when/if they get infected and when they recover then become incredibly precious and valuable as they are then immune and uninfectable.

The government is skimping on necessities such as high quality washable/reusable  PPE and daily living care for health workers, but is giving £10k gifts to MPs to allow them to remotely work (they should have this stuff anyway as part of their role).  They have got their priorities all wrong!

The UK Government has not managed this situation according to the science but according to its own disastrous political agenda!
If incompetence = death, then we would have no current government!  No bad thing.

Sorry this stuff is pretty simple microbiology, immunology and epidemiology which is my trained field that I have a PhD in.  The SAGE and NERVTAG advisory groups will be giving very similar advice to mine, but the Government is deciding which advice to take or discard and making up its own strategy on the fly!

Was given a deep freeze... Chest type, when it was plugged in nothing happened... eBay to the rescue, new thermostat fitted, quickly followed by a visit to Farmfoods, filled with froz veg and meals, even lemon meringue pie, one of my favourites and ICE CREAM! Such luxury!

Visit same supplier about every three weeks, at exactly 8am, store empty of customers, stocks good at that time of day, very convenient, get all I need*, in and out very quickly giving me the whole day to get the important stuff done.

* They don't stock Demerara sugar, which I prefer in my coffee... :needsahug:  My daughter found some for me.

Once a month? 😳. Don't suggest that to my wife.

I fear the government missed the obvious point that as 80% of the people who die each year are over 70 they should have 'instructed' us oldies to stay isolated from day 1...as opposed to some 'suggestion' to stay indoors.

Surprise surprise....80% of Covid deaths (and therefore ICU occupation with NHS pressure) are over 70s.   So no change there.

They put the pressure on the NHS themselves by not shielding those who would cause the pressure at the outset. And then they are playing catch-up.

Then these death figures to consider....

Jan-Mar 2020.... 151,000 death certificates issued
Jan-Mar 2019.... 144,000 death certificates issued
Jan-Mar 2018.... 164,000 death certificates issued  (Including some of the 26,000 who died with flu that winter)

Hmmmm.

No one is debating the severity of this virus.
I just feel that the same pro activity and responsiveness shown each year with the provision of free flu jabs for elderly and vulnerable, should have been mimicked (in the absence of a jab) with a STRONG stay indoors instruction at the outset.

Well done Robert.
Reduce contact to minimal and you stay uninfected.

I am sure that the Government is actually trying to adopt a strategy of 'get everybody infected and recovered, and if we lose 100000-400000 oldies along the way then it means our NHS and Pensions bills will be reduced'.
If you look at the UK population of 67-70M people which has about 22% of them being over 60, then that is 15million people, who in the words of the Conservative MP who wrote the book "Britannia Unchained" (all current serving Conservative MPs), are unproductive i.e. expendable!   I suggest that people read this book.  Shockingly brutal read.  There are great observations on UK life and insights on the way they view the UK 'other people', i.e. not themselves.
PDF available from a very small private library in Cornwall. ;-)

Even if you locked the whole world down for 21 days, the virus would survive in the animals it jumped from and would just jump again?

I have some sympathy with the idea of herd immunity - if indeed we are immune having had Covid.

The media are responsible for the hyping, followed by the politicians who fear for bad press and the sheep who delight in witch hunting. A sad comment on people. I am also fed up with ill informed people asking other ill informed people what they think about things that nobody knows the answer to.

Can I have the prize for a photo of the most innovative CV19 distancing idea?

I needed a battery for my new LandRover, went to my local motor factors, having established they have suitable battery in stock, made purchase, presented with a card reader on the end of a broomstick!

It may return but these inter-species jumps are occasional and rely on people having animals in unclean conditions.
It it did 'jump out' again then it would be different.
BTW  This will happen again.

To do that you need to accept that it is survival of the fittest and accept large numbers of deaths.

I agree that the media is poor and no longer to be trusted as their owners have their own agenda.
