What is the DOSDUDE1 you are talking about? I have a pro 3.1 and would like to upgrade to high Sierra but am worried about wireless connection as I use a track pad.

Yes Iain.
It does work on my MacPro (3,1) perhaps I would recommend other to do the ElCapitan to Sierra and check ifthe apps all work OK. Make a SuperDuper! clone then step on up to High Sierra. Then check the apps again.
I did a ElCapitan to High Sierra step which may have caused the issue with Photoshop CS6.

The wireless adapter function works fine after the upgrade but that is hardware dependent (Broadcom BCM4231 module is not hardware compatible) and is a fix via a plist edit or an exchange of the wireless board in the MacPro which is very easy.

Trackpad is BlueTooth. Should be no issues except some of the gesture controls have been messed with, they now reside in 'Accessability'

If you install any major Apple system updates then you need to run the post-update installer routine that fixes all the plists. This is the only downside I have identified so far.

It is easy just keep the usb stick that you used for the update available so you can use again, if ncessary.

Have you spoken to Apple? Use their web site and they will call you. You have nothing to lose.

MacPro 3,1 is not meant to upgrade past El Capitan ;-)
The hack works fine but like all these hacks there are wrinkles!

I think I'll have a go at the weekend when I have more time.

In my experience Apple wash their hands of any hack, (unintended modification of firmware, OS or hardware).

Their attitude is they don't want their products modifying, rather have users replace obsolete kit with new.

Trouble is the Mac Pro 3.1 - 5.1 has no direct replacement model, the 6.1 while very clever and potentially powerful, relies entirely on external storage and expansion, resulting in a rats nest of very expensive boxes and cables.

The 5.1 MacPro on the other hand can be almost as fast and pretty well self contained.
