Cheap Reflectors

In most large DIY shops they sell large sheets 6 feet x 4 feet sheets of expanded polystyrene.
These can be painted with emusion paint (water based) paint.

I have done this with several sheets to give me black one side and white the other.

BTW. If you dont paint them then the colour of the polystyrene cause reflected flash light to be very blue.

If you shine a UV lamp on to polystyrene you will see why! There is plenty UV in the flash and digital cameras are pretty sensitive to UV.

To throw a bigger spanner in the works emulsion paint can glow magenta in UV! LOL :lol:

FYI - If anyone is considering popup reflectors I have seen a lot of cheap lastolite knockoffs and with the exception of a few more expensive copies from other good brands, most of them are poorly riveted and the larger ones require significantly greater wrist strength to refold

I haven't yet seen anyone injured when one of theses rivets break, but I have seen several broken and the potential is certainly there

My favourites are the lastolite trig rip (triflip kit is the best) since one doesn't need an assistant to hold them most of the time

I'm trying to find some plastic sheet that is about the same thickness as a cardboard box.
I know it exists as it is used to make storage boxes for home offices and also in shops for store advertisements and section name plates.

Anyone know what the trade name or product name is called?

Foamex?

Used for display sign backgrounds, the grey card I sent you is made of Foamex, it's available in various thicknesses, the is also a 'cheap' product which is hollow with thin walls rather like conservatory roof polycarbonate, used for temporary signs and cheap signs for the likes of rallies and stuff.

Foamex or Correx is what I was after.
I guess that it is made in large sheets 8x4 feet or metric equivalents.

Now can I find a supplier in Spain.

Probably easiest to go to a sign shop, they will be able to get for you from their supplier. These suppliers tend to be few and far between, mine is in Oldham! Mind, they do a delivery service with their own trucks, but I doubt they deliver to Spain.

I think the last sheets I got were 3 Metres by 1.5. I collected them so I asked them to cut them into my finished sizes, which they did on the spot with a large sheet saw.

I am using the remnants to make the dashboard for the car. Very useful stuff. Also makes nice grey cards!

I have found if heated with a hot air gun it will bend very nicely and stay. If marked by pressure, running the hot air gun over the marks seems to make them disappear, I think the air in the foam expands the softened foam back to it's original form, a sort of healing process.
