| Hi and welcome to the forum. If you are serious about taking photographs for gain then forget gimmicks like folding screens and GPS. Concentrate on functionality and robustness and good lenses, I would suggest a D300 minimum.

| You dont say what type of photography you will be pursuing. That is a serious driver in any purchase considerations. For instance GPS is probably pretty useless for sports photography, however for landscape photos it has a lot more utility. Likewise wifi connectivity might be useful for a sports photographer but probably useless for landscape shooters.

| Well my main area of interest varies from Animal(Pet), Events, Macro, Nature, Night, People and Travel. Coming to lens kit, I would buy 50mm, 18-55mm and 55-200mm. Thanks

Either camera would be ok for the majority of those subjects. The 5300 might give an advantage for low down macro work. (eg. fungi) with its swivel screen. Of course you would need a macro lens for true macro. The 60mm macro might be worth considering as it also sort of doubles for the 50mm prime. Personally I would get the 18-105 which gives you a wider range for general use and is a better lens than the 18-55. Similarly I would get the 70-300, which is an FX lens so you will get a 1.5x multiplier effect giving an 105-450mm range! This is much better for wildlife. Despite it VR ability, a tripod may be necessary when shooting at the 300mm end.

| I think the D5300 with 18-105VR, 70-300 VR and 50mm f1.8 would suit your need.

| I use the 18-105 VR a lot for general photography on my D3100 and D200 and I am very happy with it's performance and handling. See the Westonbirt arboretum images... 18 is wide enough for most things and 105mm is a handy length on DX without being too long. If I want longer I use the 80-200 f2.8.

| One thought..... If you buy the D5300 then you need to buy AFS lenses as it has no in body autofocus motor. The D7100/7000 does have an internal autofocus motor so that means that you can use just about any AF lens.

Don't say that. I paid A$1500 for mine with one lens less than a year ago.  Then, to add insult to injury, my mate sold his virtually new D 90 to my missus for A$500 with two lenses and all the gear (tripod, etc). At least I've got access to the lenses. :thumbsup:
